Going Green With Flourescent Light Bulbs

The past year the hubby and I have been trying to replace all of our old light bulbs with the energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs. They're a little more expensive to buy, but well worth it in the long run. I've seen a decrease in our energy consumption each month, which is a plus for our pocket book. Last week we decided to bite the bullet and purchase the last of the light bulbs for our fixtures. It's a hanging chandler that is located in our dinning room. We were shocked when we got to the store to price the bulbs. Each bulb would cost us $12.00 and we would need five. Instead of spending $60.00 on new fluorescent bulbs we decided to look at the display of the new chandeliers in the store. We found a chandelier that we really liked and decided to buy it. I know it sounds crazy that we purchased the chandler instead of the light bulbs, but the new chandeliers was on sale for $40.00 and we had the required bulbs already at home. No need for us to spend $60.00 on light bulbs. So, in the end we saved $20.00. I can officially say that each and every light socket in our home has a new fluorescent light bulb. Yippie! Hope this saves us more money in the future. If you’re trying to save money on energy cost, then this might just be what you’re looking for.

  1. I'm slowly joining you with the new light bulbs. Both lamps in my living room and the 3 bulbs in the ceiling fan in the kitchen are all CFLs. They really do last much, much longer than standard bulbs, and it's such an easy way to go green.

  2. I've been working that direction, replacing each burned out bulb with an energy efficient that I pick up everytime I find them on sale. Now if only dh wouldn't go back through and put in the other kind.
