Reaching My Readers
It's been almost a year since I started this amazing blogging adventure. I've loved every minute of it and I've met some amazing people along the way. The only struggle I seem to have encountered is driving people to my website. I love to meet new friends and get fun comments. Though I've been doing a little better the past few months. I some times wish that my blog content had a little more pizzazz. Its made me realize how difficult it must be to work as a journalist. How do they find the ideas for articles to capture the attention of their audiences? I wish that I could implement digital signage into my blog. Maybe that would draw some attention. How do other bloggers get such amazing Google ranks and Real Rank scores? It's a mystery to me. I sure would like to know the secret. Maybe it's years of having an established blog. Any suggestions are welcome.

I have no idea. My main goal has been to keep in touch with family and friends while traveling (once we start doing more of that).
ReplyDeleteif you figure it out let me know. i know some people who put no effort into getting readers and get 10 times what I get after all my effort :(
ReplyDeleteI make sure that I drop lots of ECs and comment on lots of blogs that I like. Also in EC, I don't just campaign in my specialty, I branch out! Another thing I do is to advertise on the most popular blogs in EC which can help with traffic. Also try Technorati and Zibio which are other networking sites. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteI don't worry much about visitors anymore. In the beginning I did but now I truly blog for myself. It is a nice kind of freedom!
ReplyDeleteMe too, I drop more EC and make sure that those people that visit me, I go and visit their blogs too and also give some comment on their post. I try to put some widgets or designs on my blogs that'll capture some bloggers. Like put music, more pictures and games perhaps, or videos. I don't know! hehehe... Luckily I got rank 2 in Google so I was so happy about that! :) Good Luck to yours! :)
ReplyDeleteI found a interesting post at The Matthias Chronicles explaining google rankings. You might want to check it out.
ReplyDeleteYou know, Entrecard has brought me several new readers in just a month. If I gain this many new readers each month, I'll definitely have a sizable reader base.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a lot of time and dedication. Try not to focus so much on the numbers. After all, the reason we are here is to write and share. Hopefully, others will come, but if they don't...we still serve our purpose.
I'm right there with you. I have tried to write more "interesting" posts here lately, but it's really hard. I'm not the best at just coming up with random stuff to write. It's mainly been a chronicle of our "goings-on" and our "homeschool." At first it was just family, but I have had some recent visitor thanks to EC, and I'm loving it. Here's hoping we can both grab an audience!
ReplyDeleteOne small suggestion for both content ideas and attracting readers -
ReplyDeletehave you tried any of the blog carnivals?
You can find a list at http://blogcarnival.com/bc/
One of my favorites to read (even though I haven't participated for a while) is the Make It From Scratch Carnival on Tuesdays.
Maybe you could check out the list of carnivals and find a few (like MIFS) that would work for your blog.
There is also a list of daily memes at http://thedailymeme.com/. Some of these are "family friendly" and can give you some ideas.
Good Luck! and more importantly - Enjoy Blogging!
I found that once I began participating in memes, I got more comments. The thing of it is, though, MORE comments don't always mean VALUABLE comments. For example, I once did a Thursday Thirteen about my 13 favorite songs. One commenter (who did this all the time) said, "I don't know those songs." Um ... what was the point of that? Other than to annoy me? So if you're happy with what you write, if it makes you happy, don't worry about how many visitors or comments.
ReplyDeleteYou have 60 followers that's nearly twice as many as I have and I've been blogging longer than you so I wouldn't worry so much. Your page rank shouldn't be as important as your subscriber count or "followers" which really is the same thing. But if you are interested in getting a higher page rank the first thing you need to do is get other websites similar to yours to link to you. One way links are better than reciprocal, but they can be a lot more challenging to get as well. I've set up a free link exchange on my blog and that's helped a little. If you are looking for SEO tips just let me know I have a bunch of ebooks on the topic and I would gladly share them with you. If you use the right key words in your posts and spread them throughout that will help your rank in google for that post. Make sure all of your key words in your article are listed as tags. Let me know if you want any more tips. I'll be glad to help!
ReplyDeleteI'm still clueless myself. EC has given me my most traffic and reader's. I think link referral is pretty good as well as the purpose with them is to receive traffic while having your site reviewed and reviewing others. I just recently made it to PR 1 with google.
ReplyDeleteEC has been awesome for me. Become a follower on any blogs that interest you and COMMENTS! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteim trying to get more traffic too.. goodluck to both of us and thank you for following my blog.. i followed you too.

ReplyDeleteMichelle,
ReplyDeletecongrats on your one-year-old blog! I hope mine lasts that long. I find dropping more EC's helpful, as well as commenting on interesting posts (not only in my category)
In reply to your signature question, you may find this site helpful

Our blog that does the best numbers in traffic is the paranormal one. I think blogs that have a built in niche audience do better. For my personal blog I enjoy doing memes. :) I've met lots of people with HOT, TT, and WW :)
ReplyDeleteOne way to get more traffic is to participate in chat groups a good one for moms is CafeMom or The Mom Blogs Join the message boards there then add a link to your blog in your signature so everytime you post you will be giving the readers a link to your blog. If they like what you have to say in the message boards they are more likly to visit your blog.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing about using a signature. I got to figure that out. But in the meanwhile come by my site since I gave you an "award" today!
ReplyDeletetry to embed a chatbox in your site, like what i got in mine, readers want to easily get recognized by leaving messages in chatboxes that links to their sites. easier than leaving a comment in an article.. by the way, thanks for visiting my site...
ReplyDeleteOh, another thing I thought of. Participate in Memes! Your name is listed in linkies for other people to see. Then make sure you visit and comment on all the other participants. Wordless Wednesday has driven TONS of people to my blog. I fill out all the Mr. Linkies I can!! There are tons of great memes out there!
