Where Did All The Jobs Go?

I've been entertaining the idea of finding job. It will be five years this coming October that I resigned from my last job. This was a hard decision for me, but I wanted to stay home and raise my little one. Plus we didn't think we could afford day care. I've really missed working all these years. We really need the money right now. This economic crisis our nation is in has really hit my family hard. We have had some unexpected medical bills. That has really put a damper on our savings account. Basically it's non existent. I've been looking in our local paper lately and there sure isn't much to be found in the classified ads except for sales training ads. My expertise is in the accounting/finance field, but maybe I should think about a career change.

  2. I have friends who have worked in accounting and many of them work as a consultant. They manage the books for small businesses that need help. It might be a way to allow you to have a flexible schedule but still bring in some money.

  3. The job market is rough right now. Money is super tight for us too even with both of us working already. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll find something soon. What did you do for your last job?

  7. There are very few jobs of any kind on our local paper. I am so praying this economy turns around soon.

  8. Accountants & Finance are always in demand and it's an area hard to outsource. Some CPA work is being done in India and there is some automation in accounting. If you are not in the country, I would suggest get on linkedin, get 10 people to recommend you, answer some questions, and that should help.

A better solution may be some type of consulting. It's also possible to do quick books remotely for doing people books, may be even get certified. The nice thing is if you get a couple of clients, then you have a lot more flexibility.

Disclaimer - my wife is a CPA, big 4 experience, etc. so I have picked up way too much about the accounting/CPA industry.

    Sincerely,

    Ray
