I just wanted to give everyone an update on our little ones Strabismus Surgery, or in other words the lazy eye surgery. According to the doctor the surgery went well. We will know more on Friday when we go to the post operative appointment. Our little one was such a brave little trooper through the entire event. There wasn't a single tear shed. I was surprised and pleased all at the same time. She handled the surgery better than some adults I know would have. We have been preparing her for this big day for about a month now. We read her the children's surgery book that the hospital supplied and we didn't hold a detail back, no matter how it was. I feel it's best to be truthful with your children when it comes to life. I wanted her to be prepared, so she wouldn't be so scared. I guess all the preparation really worked.
I can't express enough how proud I am of my little person. Yesterday she finally opened her eyes with a little help from her sun glasses. The eyes are a little swollen and there are red spots that look like blood to me on the whites of her eyes. Her spirits are up and she is acting like her happy little self again. It's amazing how quickly children bounce back after surgery. I'm so relieved this event is over with for now. We won't know how successful the surgery was for about two months. It takes a while for eyes to heal and get back to normal. Though her eyes seem to look a little better to me. I'm hoping and praying that it worked, so that we don't have to subject her to yet another surgery.
The only problem I'm having now is getting the anti-biotic into her eyes. She's really physically fighting the hubby and I on this. She just doesn't want anyone near her eyes. I don't blame her, but the medicine must go in to prevent infection. So my sweet mom, who is a nurse, is coming over today to help me with this minor struggle. I hope we can get the medicine into her eyes. She is suppose to take it easy for about 10 days. No play dates for her this week. Thanks again to everyone who has been so supportive in this hard time in our life's.
Big Hug Hugs
such a great news!!! :D your lil one is so brave!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooooo glad that the surgery went well!!!! Yeay! Good job both of you!!! What a brave little girl you have! I want to reach through the computer and give her a hug! I hope that she does better with the antibiotic when your mom comes over. . .I know my son would be fighting that, too. :(
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment on my post the other day about my hair, haha - yes, that's why I said I'm going to the place that fixed it from now on!
I'm glad everything went well. Yes children definately handle some situations better then adults. I think it has to do with their trust in us in not letting anything bad happen to them. To our children we are superheros who can do anything :D Sometimes I wish it were true.
ReplyDeleteAs for the drops for her eyes try placing the drops on the corner of her eye next to her nose then let her turn her head to allow the drops to run into her eyes instead of trying to drop them straight in. Good Luck
I'm so happy to hear that she did so good.
ReplyDeleteHope she gets to feeling better soon!
