Wow, lots of Red Tape To Get Through

I finally had a chance to read over all the foster care/adoption paper work. There is so much to know. It's a little overwhelming, but so worth the effort. I had a few questions that I needed answered so I called the Department of Human resources in our county. The gentleman I spoke with was more then happy to answer all my questions. It was refreshing talking to a real person on the phone who was so very nice. He explained to me that becoming a licensed foster care provider is a long process with many many steps.  He told me that the most important step is that hubby and I need to complete is to take the pride classes through the county. These classes consist of 27 hours or 9 weeks of training. These courses teach you how to handle and cope with a foster child. You never know what type of situations these children are coming from. The bad news is that the county won't be offering the class until maybe mid-winter or early spring. So we just have to wait. I was kind of bummed about that. I really wanted to get the ball rolling on this journey. When I was reading the literature from our local DHS it stated that 75% of the foster kids become adoptable at some point. That's good news for us since we would love to adopt a child, but so sad that parents can't take care of their own children. We can also adopt a child through the state, but there are some fee's involved, so we have decided to stick with the foster care and see where it leads. I just can't imagine being a child and having no parents to take care of you. What a nightmare for these children. It just breaks my heart. Anyway that's the latest and greatest. I'll keep everyone update.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Hugs

  1. I'm sorry that you have to wait for a while for the classes. I was hoping one would be starting this fall for you.

So by summertime, you'll maybe have a new addition!

  7. I'm personally glad that it's not an easy process, it weeds out those that really shouldn't be foster parents.

  8. That breaks my heart, too. It's so wonderful you can help change that! It's too bad it's such a slow process but hopefully it will be worth it!

Thank you for the comment on my blog about Logan's 18 month pictures! :)

  10. Good luck to you with all the paperwork and classes, etc. Fostering is such a giving thing to do. A good friend of mine is a foster mom and there have been a lot of ups and downs in the experience.
