Adoption

Me and the hubby have been talking about adopting for several years now. Even before I got pregnant with our daughter. My sisters friend just adopted a baby girl fromThe Adoption Center of Kansas. I've always had a soft place in my heart for orphaned children. My dad was on of those children. He was in foster homes until he was 9 years old. Then finally my grandparents adopted him. I can't begin to tell you the terrible things he went through in foster care before my grandparents took him in. I can't imagine being a lone in this world. I don't know what I would do with out my parents. So, this morning I talked to the hubby about this place in Kansas and he gave me the go ahead to call. Everything sounds great about this place. They only adopt out newborns and on a rare occasion a toddler. They were extremely nice and very helpful on the phone. Then my dreams were squashed. The nice girl on the phone told me it cost around $27,500.00 for the entire adoption process. On top of the $27,500 you have to pay an additional $500 to $1500 for the home study. Where in the world am I going to get that type of money, I thought to myself as the nice girl continued to give all the information. Though I think there is an adoption credit you can file on your federal tax return for $10,000.00 of it. I've looked into adopting from Michigan but I keep running into special needs children or babies that are born drug addicted. Just don't think we are the right people for that. I've read that those children are better placed in a home with no children and I have a 3 year old. I'm not going to give up on this dream we have. I'm going to continue my research and see what I come up with. Wish me luck.
