It's Time For The Big Surgery

Well the time has come for my daughter's eye appointment when we talk about the big surgery on her two lazy eyes. She was diagnosed with two lazy eyes last October. We were told that it's a hereditary thing. According to the doctor she was born with this. My father was also born with a lazy eye and had surgery several years ago. The glasses that were prescribed for our little one don't seem to be doing the job that the doctor had hoped. I'm assuming the first surgery will be sometime in June. I'm not sure how soon after the first surgery that we have to wait until she will need the second surgery. Yes, we were told she will probably need two operations to correct her eyes. It just kills me that my little four year old has to go through this, but we have no choice at this point. It must be done. If we wait to long it could damage her site permanently, and I don't want that. I'm a little concerned about how we are suppose to come up with the money to pay for our huge deductible on our insurance policy. It looks like we are going have to pay $1,000.00 to cover the deductible. My hubby's employer down graded our insurance policy a year ago and it's been a struggle paying for medical bills lately. I'm thinking about looking into a second policy through Blue Advantage. Maybe that would ease this financial pain. So please keep your fingers crossed that this surgery will be a success.

  3. I have to tell you that I completely understand what you are feeling. My daughter underwent two very lengthy surgeries last fall to correct her developmental dysplasia of the hips. Those two days were absolutely the longest, most horrible days of my life.

All I can say is this: You WILL be okay and you WILL get through this.

It's scary. It's heartbreaking. But in the end - it's 100% worth it.

  5. I really feel for you! My eldest had one lazy eye, but it corrected itself by the time she was four so she did not need surgery.

I hope your girl's surgery is a success too. Fingers, and toes crossed for your daughter!

  6. Poor kid...that would be hard. But of course, it's better to have it done when she's so young. She'll heal faster and hopefully won't remember.

  7. i can't imagine your little one going to this major surgery, she is too young for that; well no choice, right?

my son's pedia told us that he need to have his tonsil removed, he was three then, we didn't agree because he is very young; he is ok now without the surgery, but your's is different and i pray everything went well.

  14. I hope your daughter's surgery goes well. Health insurance can be so expensive. When we did have health insurance we also had a huge deductible. We still haven't paid the bills completely from when my two youngest children were born. I know what you are going through.

  17. Oh dear, I can't imagine having a 4 year old going into surgery. You'll surely be in my thoughts.

Some insurance is a scam. I totaled up my bills for a year and my payments and everything. If I would have just put the 200 a month fee in savings I would have come up 150.00 extra on my side.

We are having the same problem with our insurance. My husband is having a test done and with deductibles and copays, it will cost us $1000.
