My Hardwood Floors Need Repair

It's been almost eight years now that we've lived in our home. We bought the home newly built back in July of 2001. I can't believe how fast the time has passed. I made the decision to lay hardwood floors in each and every room. I have terrible allergies and two dogs. So having hardwood floors really back on the dust and smell that carpet can hold. I love my wood flooring, but it's starting to look a bit beat up. I'm contemplating whether to have the hubby pull up the bad pieces and replace them with new ones. I'm not sure what else we can do. I don't think this type of hardwood can be refinished. I'm sure my hubby won't be happy when I tell him I want to start a new flooring project. Do you have hardwood floors? How do you repair the years of abuse?

  1. The home we are currently renting has hardwood floors in the kitchen. They are the old fashion kind Just clean gently and thats it. Any marks or scratches actually adds to their character. The last home we were in had the new stuff it was crappy cheap stuff that wasn't installed properly. It was always shifting and any mark or scuff stood out from a mile away.

I would ask around about refinishing yours and if your going to replace it anyway go ahead and try maybe it will work out fine or find a place that can recycle it. Your old floor might help someone fix their floor.

  3. My husband has just put a coat of urethane on the worn out parts and that has put a bandaid on things.

  4. I don't think your floor look bad! I thought with wood floor you sanded the surface, stained and urethane and they were good again. They have to last more then 8 years.
