The High Cost Of Prescription Medications

I've been very fortunate most of my life that I've had health insurance coverage. Of course there were those few years back in my early twenties when I was in college that I couldn't afford health coverage. We may not have the best coverage right now, but at least we have something. A few years ago my doctor put me on some of the best diet pills. They really seemed to do the job for me. I actually lost 15 pounds with the help of eating right and exercise. So a few weeks ago when I was in the doctors office I got another prescription for the same pills. After my appointment I headed up to our local pharmacy and tried to fill the prescription. I was so disappointed when the pharmacist told me that my insurance wouldn't cover this medication anymore, but I had the option to pay cash. The total price for a thirty day supply was $328.00. Yikes, that's a lot of cash. Of course I declined and went on my way. I'm just shocked at the price of medication these days. Especially if you don't have any type of drug coverage. I think if I decided to start taking diet pills I'll stick with the over the counter brands.

  1. You might be interested in trying to find the discount generic alternative. Generics are exact copies of the name brand counterparts, and you can find them really easy at www.medtipster.com

You just put in the name of the drug, the dosage, and your zip code and it finds you the generic prescription right in your neighborhood and for as little as $4.

    Good luck!

  2. Drug companies pretty much assume that most people have coverage so they jack up the prices knowing that they will usually never get the full price of the prescription. You may be able to contact the Rx company directly and they may give you a discount. :O)

  3. I think everything costs more now, we got a bill for CJ was over 100K!! They said it wasn't a bill yet b/c they are waiting to see what insurance will pay but even our out of pocket cost is going to be ridiculous with that amount!
